So we moved... to a house with a totally different style than our previous house, Farm Hill Cottage. We left the sweet, farmhouse cottage vibe for a beautiful, vintage Spanish Revival. I like to say it has a hint of a romance too.
This house has turned out to be our unexpected dream home. When we started looking at houses I mainly wanted a home with some neat architectural features - mostly I was looking for a home with arches that made a statement. That is very hard to find in our area. We looked at newer homes, homes built in the 80's and 90's, we even looked into building a new home. We quickly learned that new houses weren't for us. They just don't have the details that we love and it is astronomical to build a home that has an old charming feel.
After doing a lot of looking and not really finding anything we loved, we were honestly ready to give up when Daron pitched the idea of going to see the Spanish Glory. I knew exactly which house he was talking about and at first I told him no. I didn't want to go see another house that may or may not be for sale that would probably be way out of our price range. He pushed for us to go see it again and I finally agreed. "FINE. I'll go look at it just because I've always been curious of what the inside of that house is like." Famous last words.

We met the sweet owner of the home one day on our lunch break. This home had been in her family since her parents built it in the 30's. It has been sitting vacant for several years as no one in their family needed or wanted it and they weren't too fond of renting it out. With that being said, I really had no idea what to expect on the inside. The outside was kept tidy so it was obvious that they were still caring for it.
We walked in the back door into the 1950's addition. It was like stepping back in time but not in a good way. It had a giant open concept with a living space and kitchen featuring unique custom cabinetry, berber carpet and lots of laminate flooring. The addition also included a guest suite which also featured a lot of laminate but the bathroom was cute - it had some potential. I will say, the home was spotless, especially for being vacant. I was shocked!

We continued walking through the back of the house making our way into the breakfast room. This is where I started seeing slightly more potential in the house. It had adorable built-in's just like the home I grew up in.

We then made our way into the original kitchen of the house. TWO kitchens. I quickly saw the potential for this original kitchen to become a utility room. It has great storage and already has the hook-ups for a washer and dryer. It's location is perfect for a laundry room too. It is off to itself a bit and easy to close off from the rest of the home if it gets messy.

We started easing into the rest of the original part of the house - the dining room - it has an ARCH!! The arch looks into the most beautiful entry way and staircase. I was in awe of it's true Spanish revival style showing off.

We looked at the office and the half bath. Both have a lot of potential and I was in love with he black and yellow half bath.

Then we stepped into the room that I immediately fell in love with. The living room. Oh. My. Goodness. A beautiful fireplace, sealing beams like no other and a Persian rug that was to die for. I went from "I'm here just to see this cool house" to "it must be mine before we leave today" in a matter of seconds.

After drooling over the formal living room we made our way up the most beautiful staircase to the three most perfect bedrooms and two adorable bathrooms.

The master bathroom really stole the show with it's pink and bronze tile. Again, the house I grew up in had pink tile so it felt very nostalgic to me.

The "kids" bathroom is an adorable green vintage tile which I think is so fun.

The upstairs of the house is massive. It's actually the size of Farm Hill Cottage which is pretty crazy to think! One of our favorite parts of the upstairs is the balcony. It feels like royalty... even empty!

The final stop of this house was the garage apartment. It is super cute, has a ton of potential but definitely needs the most work - I'll share pictures of it in another post sometime!
Obviously we left feeling very in love with this house and made an offer (that was in our price range!!!) the next day. We feel super fortunate to have connected with the owners when we did because I think this house would have been super hard to get if it would have actually been on the market. It is super unique for our area and a home that most locals are familiar with.

We our absolutely in love with our Spanish Glory and look forward to sharing the transformations with you!
