This comes as a big surprise to many but we are selling Farm Hill Cottage and moving to a new home! Since Farm Hill Cottage is a family home, so many of our friends were surprised to hear that we would even consider moving. When we purchased FHC our main goal was to give the home new life so that it could provide a happy life to families for another 70+ years! We have done just that and now we are ready to pass it on to the next family.
The reality is that FHC is 1,300 sq ft with one bathroom, three small bedrooms and three tiny closets. With our growing little family, we are maxing out on space even though we strive daily to live a simplified life. More than anything I wanted just one more bathroom and a laundry room inside of our home. Not too much to ask for right?!

What urged the move?
The realtor that sold FHC to us contacted us out of the blue to ask how much we would sell the home for. We gave her a number and the next day she called and asked if her daughter could come look. Keep in mind, we had no plans of selling at this point but we also weren't opposed to it. During the pandemic when we were spending so much time at home we realized how much we really did need/want some extra space so we were feeling more motivated than normal to make the move to sell.
We HUSTLED for about 4 days to finalize some projects and pull the house together to show and they came and looked. The things we do to prepare our house for showing is rediculous and after the fact, we questioned if other people go through the same thing?? Another discussion for another blog post on all the things we did to get it ready to show at the 11th hour...literally.
We went ahead and started looking at homes in town even without an offer because we wanted to be prepared and at this point we decided that maybe this was Gods way of telling us it was our time to make a move we had been questioning for a while now.
Long story short, the couple loved the house and really wanted to purchase it but at the end of the day it didn't work out. They were devastated and we were sad too but we know that things work out just the way they are supposed to and we pressed on to continue the last project that needed to be wrapped up, our dreaded laundry room/outbuilding in order to get it listed.

How long did it take to get the house listed and under contract?
We spent about three weeks finishing up the laundry room/outbuilding and once it was somewhat close to being complete, I decided to take some pictures of our house and post that we would be selling our house on my personal Facebook page. You never know who might be interested or know someone interested! Long story short, 48 hours later our house was under contract! It was a whirlwind of two days with 8 scheduled showings! We never listed the house or worked with a realtor. I'll share more about that and why we decided to try selling on our own before hiring a realtor in another post!

Are we sad to leave this house?
This is definitely a bittersweet move. We love this house and it has a very special meaning to us. We've had so many special moments here as a family and so many wonderful milestones have happened while we've lived here. We brought both of our babies home to this house. It's our first renovation together. It was a house that was slowly deteriorating that we were able to bring back to life. We are proud of how far the house has come while we've lived here and we have loved every minute of time as a family here. On the flip side, we are so excited for the couple purchasing the home. We know they are going to take care of it and continue making improvements and we are excited to see them create special memories here too!

What's the new house like?
It is VERY different from our current house. It's a different style, different size, and different location from where we are now. All great things and all things we are excited to share with you soon! Eeek!
