It isn't fall if your house doesn't smell like fall right?! About a year and a half ago I started diffusing in our home. After putting out a candle and watching the smoke fill the space, I had this weird instinct that there's no way that can be good for our newborn babies little lungs... or ours. It was one of those weird mom feelings I had shortly after having Lola. I started doing some research and found out that those instincts were so true! Here's what I found:
Anything that releases smoke decreases the air quality.
Many times the air quality in our homes is worse than the air quality outside. Scary.
The World Health Organizations states that 92% of the world population lives in places where the air quality exceeds The WHO limits. Air pollution takes a toll especially on women, children and the elderly populations.
Most candles are made with paraffin wax (so consider soy or beeswax candles if you must burn candles) which is a petroleum waste product that is chemically bleached. When this product burns it creates a highly toxic benzene and toluene (both carcinogens) and then you absorb those toxins through your skin and and inhaled into your lungs.
Candles are so bad for us but I LOVED burning candles. That was the definition of cozy to me. I loved the glow and the smell. No judgement if you burn candles at all! I am really big on if you know better you can do better even if that means making smarter choices on what candles you burn.
After doing some research I discovered essential oils. I knew about essential oils and my family sometimes used them but I really associated them with massages than making a home feel cozy and smell good. A blogger I follow had just gotten into Young Living so I bought a Starter Kit from her and the rest is literally history. I diffuse every single day now and I had no idea that these oils that smell so good would be so life-changing for our health. Now when I go somewhere that has a burning candle it actually smells really bad (like chemicals) to me and I tend to get headaches from the toxins they are releasing because I'm not used to it anymore. So crazy how that works!
Here are a few of my favorite fall oils:
bergamot
cassia
cardamon
cinnamon bark
copaiba
cedarwood
christmas spirit
citrus fresh
clove
exodus II
gathering
gratitude
ginger
Idaho blue spruce

and here are a few of my favorite fall blends:

2 bergamot
